Payback Notes

What I do here

I read the documents that decide what a pokie pays back: the national gaming machine standard and each state’s appendix, the game sheets and help files studios publish, and the pages venues put up about their gaming rooms. Then I write down the figure, the link and the date.

I’m based in Adelaide, which is why South Australia’s 87.5% floor was the first number I went looking for.

How I work

  • A number goes on a page only with its source. No source, no number.
  • If a venue or casino doesn’t publish a setting, the page says so.
  • I use “I” when something is my judgement, and give the reason.

What I don’t do

I don’t tell anyone a machine is “due”, call a game “loose”, or suggest a best time to play. None of those ideas survive a reading of how a random number generator works. I don’t describe online casinos as legal or licensed in Australia, because they aren’t.

Checked by hand

Every guide lists what I checked and when, and what I haven’t been able to check yet. The method is on how we verify RTP; the guides start from the pokies RTP table. Who runs the site and why is on about Payback Notes.
